When you walk in our doors, you'll meet our friendly staff who helps find the items you need, maintains and repairs the equipment you return and delivers larger items from our warehouse to local homes.
CAS's Executive Director, Dan Maljanian, grew up in Temple City and Arcadia and has deep rooted familiarity with the San Gabriel Valley. He has an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA, and holds a law degree and Masters of Business Administration from U.C. Berkeley. He is currently a resident of Altadena. Dan’s recent positions with the American University of Armenia and the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus have given him ample hands-on grassroots development and fundraising experience to supplement his management and entrepreneurial experience as a nonprofit executive director and owner of a bakery & cafe. His work as an attorney and as a business owner has given him extensive public speaking and advocacy opportunities in front of large and small groups. Dan would be happy to speak to your club or group about CAS, or to discuss how you can play a larger role in supporting the work of CAS individually or through your company or organization.
Director of Operations
CAS's Director of Operations, Jesse Avila, has a proven track record of excellence. He is experienced working with staff and board members and has the demonstrated ability to control all facets of running a nonprofit organization. His exceptional communication skills have allowed him to enjoy an effective and productive relationship with the Board of Directors and Staff, and his understanding of CAS’ mission empowers him to serve the community of the San Gabriel Valley.

Colony Abbott Tom Strafaci, President Joining the Board of Directors in January, 2009, Tom is the Director of Personal Fitness Training Services at Functional Physical Therapy and Fitness, as well as the owner/operator of Functional Fitness, Inc. in Pasadena. Tom is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), former national team power lift and collegiate power lift champion, and former world record holder in the squat for his weight division. Tom also regularly competes in the Senior Olympic Powerlifting competitions and the World Famous Marine Corps Mud Run each year. Tom brings to CAS a wealth of experience, working with clients ranging from pitchers in the Atlanta Braves farm systems, post rehab conditioning individuals, severe weight loss clients and senior citizens who have medical conditions that require special exercise intervention. For the last nine years Tom has worked with many local physicians and psychologists in an effort to best serve his client's fitness needs. Tom also is a regular speaker at the Huntington Hospital's Senior Care Network. Mike Noll, First Vice President Joining the Board in January of 2011, Mike is a CPA with extensive experience in accounting for nonprofit organizations. He is also the President and CEO of Maxwell Noll Investment Advisors, a family firm established in 1975 that manages money for individuals, family trusts, endowment funds, and qualified plans. Mike is a member of Altadena Rotary where he served as President and Treasurer and was also assistant governor for District 5300. Mike also serves on the Business Advisory Committee and Planned Giving Committee of Five Acres in Altadena. Hermina Allen, Second Vice President Hermina comes to CAS from the business and investment world. Joining CAS in March of 2011, she is the President and Owner of Allen Financial Services, working with individuals and businesses to analyze, establish and monitor business development and financial/investment strategies, along with estate & trust management and private foundation reporting and tax preparation oversight. Hermina also manages a 2nd generation family business that researches and manufactures phytochemical & plant-based preservatives sold worldwide. She also holds an MBA from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Harold
Hennacy, Treasurer Board member since 1993, Hal is retired from a 44-year career as an agent and broker in the property/casualty insurance industry. He is currently a Director of the Huntington Municipal Water District. Hal is married and lives in Pasadena with his wife, Marguerite. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. Carl White,
Assistant Treasurer Board member since 1999, Carl and his wife, Judy, reside in San Marino and have two grown children. Carl holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Southern California, where he graduated in 1969. He is retired from a career in corporate finance. His community volunteer efforts have been for Meals on Wheels in Pasadena, Friends of the San Marino Public Library, Union Station Foundation (retired) and the Southern California Chapter of National Multiple Sclerosis Society (retired). Susan Salit, Recording Secretary Board member since 1988, Susan is retired from a job as secretary and back office administrator in an investment advisory/insurance office. She was introduced to CAS by past president and former caseworker, Mary Freer. Community service includes volunteer hours with Altadena Junior Circle at Sycamores Homes and for the San Marino PTA. She and husband, Harry, reside in Pasadena. They have two children and five grandchildren. A member of the Board since early 2011, Joan joined CAS after experiencing the outstanding service provided by the organization following back surgery. She was introduced to CAS by Lynda Patton. A member of A.S.I.D., she works in the field of Interior Design. Active in volunteer work and on the Affiliate Board of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Joan also chairs supporting committees encouraging the arts and bringing music into the schools. Barbara Eaton Dr. Barbara Eaton is a retired general surgeon who practiced at Kaiser Permanente for nearly 28 years, serving as Chief of Staff for 2 years and as a member of the Bioethics Committee. She was educated at Antioch College and Tufts University and then received her MD at George Washington University Medical School. She also serves on the Affiliate Board of Jericho Road Project Pasadena and is a trustee at Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church. She lives with her husband in South Pasadena, is the mother of two adult children and two grandchildren, and enjoys her three Labrador retrievers. David Jones David has been in practice over the past 35 years as a licensed clinical psychologist and is also a psychological consultant to cancer patients at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. He joined the CAS Board in March of 2011, having previously served on the boards of Hospice of Pasadena and other nonprofit organizations. He is currently on the advisory boards of various Pasadena-area organizations including Cancer Support Community (formerly Wellness Community). Eugene Noll Joining the Board in 1995, Gene and long time associate, Terry Maxwell, opened their investment firm in Pasadena in 1975. The firm manages money for individuals, family trusts, endowment funds, and qualified plans. Community services have included directorship of the Better Business Bureau and YMCA. Gene is a graduate of Purdue University and served in the U.S. Navy during World War Two. He and his wife, Ginny, reside in Pasadena and have three married sons and six grandchildren. Lynda Patton Following a term as Interim Director of CAS in 2002/2003, Lynda joined the Board in June 2003. She works with her son in residential real estate development and has a long history of community service, including The Junior League of Pasadena, The Town Club, Pasadena Historical Museum, Five Acres, Chapman Woods Association, Assistance League of Southern California, and UCLA Medical Auxiliary. She completed a term as Chair of the CAS Board in January 2011. | |||
